History

A fixture in the community for more than 60 years!

The Magic of Manatee chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) was chartered in October, 1975, the result of a merger between two existing Bradenton (SAI) choruses: the Bradenton chapter, chartered in 1957;  and, the Friendly City chapter, whose members had been performing together for seven years prior to the merger.

Our parent group, Sweet Adelines International (SAI), was founded in 1945 and is a worldwide, non-profit, educational organization committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony and a capella singing for women through education, performance, and competition.

In April of 1976 the Magic of Manatee chorus performed in Miami at its first Regional Competition, and won third place!  In the following years of Regional Competition, the chorus came in second and then fourth.

In succeeding years, the chorus has placed at various levels, one time earning the Third Place Chorus award, and another time being recognized as the Most Improved Chorus.  Most recently, at our regional competitions in Daytona Beach, we have won several Audience Choice and Bravo awards.

Throughout the years, the Magic of Manatee chorus has served our community by performing at civic events, charitable functions, hospitals, nursing home and retirement centers, providing scholarships to deserving Fine Arts students, and by actively supporting critical community resources such as HOPE Family Services for survivors of domestic violence.
